A Spaghetti Western is a subgenre of Western film that originated in Italy in the 1960s. The films are known for their violence, anti-hero protagonists, and desert settings.

When you hear the term, “spaghetti western,” you may automatically think of Clint Eastwood and Sergio Leone, and The Dollars Trilogy which they made together. But there is so much more to see within this movie subgenre, that has left its mark on pop culture.

Conducted by Anthony Lusardi, this slideshow presentation will cover the short but significant history of spaghetti westerns, while offering 10 particular pictures that are often overshadowed by the Eastwood/Leone fame. Here, you will learn about each picture, along with their own unique characters, their own exciting action, and their own styles that continue to influence the modern western. Video clips and movie trailers will also follow for viewing. Some of these spaghetti westerns include Django, Death Rides and Horse, They Call Me Trinity and Keoma.

Anthony Lusardi lives in Rockaway Borough, NJ. He has done library lectures for six years, mostly on arts & entertainment subjects. He is also a poet with his poetry (mainly haiku), having appeared in journals, such as Modern HaikuThe Cicada’s CryFrogpondHedgerow, and Bottle Rockets. He has four haiku chapbooks, published by Buddha Baby Press, based in Connecticut.
