Event Details

Bruce Springsteen is a singer, songwriter and performer who is known for his brand of heartland rock infused with pop hooks, poetic lyrics and Americana sentiments centered on his native New Jersey, and  narrative songs about working class American life. During a career that has spanned six decades, Springsteen has become known for his poetic, socially conscious lyrics and energetic stage performances.  Nicknamed “The Boss”, he was inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 1999.

In this illustrated slide presentation that includes audio recordings, you will travel with Springsteen from his early days in Freehold, New Jersey, to his rise on the world stage as a superstar rock hero.   Presenter Vincent Bruno’s focus will be on songs from his most commercially successful period from the 70s into the 80s. From his “wall of sound” influence in “Born to Run,” to the lost working-class man facing a spiritual crisis in “Born in the USA,” and including songs written by Springsteen and performed by other artists, Bruno will examine the amazing legacy of this award winning and best selling music artist.

Bruno is a Beatles scholar and storyteller, and  a 60s’ rock historian, and presents a variety of programs that include historic and musical overviews of over 100 rock and roll musicians and groups, each of whom helped define the 50s, 60s and 70s by creating musical landscapes that captivated a generation and whose influence in popular culture still endures more than five decades later.

Bruno retired as Director of First Year Programs at LaGuardia Community College (City University of New York).  He holds an MPA from Baruch College and, as an adjunct professor for 25 years, taught courses in numerous disciplines including Humanities, Business and Mathematics.

This program is made possible with the support of The Friends of the Livingston Public Library.  It is open to all and no registration is needed.
