Event Details
Due to an aging population, an increase in obesity, and chronic conditions like Type II diabetes, vascular diseases are a growing epidemic.
Your vascular system is your body's network of blood vessels including your artilleries, veins and capillaries that carry oxygen and nutrients to every cell in your body. Vascular disease is any abnormal condition of the blood vessels and includes types like atherosclerosis , aneurysm, blood clots, varicose veins, and peripheral artery disease, to name a few. Because the vascular system is so complex and far-reaching, diseases can appear anywhere in the body in many different forms. Vascular diseases often occur along with other diseases like diabetes or heart disease.
This community health presentation presented in collaboration with Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center will review common vascular conditions such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), varicose veins, aneurysms, and stroke. Common tips on preventing and managing each will be discussed with an emphasis on possible medications, lifestyle changes, and healthy habits that can be considered.
Presenter Lucio Volino, PharmD, is a clinical pharmacist for the Retail Network at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center and the Clinical Associate Professor, Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy, at Rutgers University.
This program is open to all but registration is required. To register visit the event calendar at www.livingstonlibrary.org
