With buzzwords like "zero-waste," "sustainability," "eco-friendly," and "clean" punctuating conversations, social media, and news every day, it can start to feel like so much white noise—complicated white noise that you don't have time for.
But the fact is, it's completely possible to reduce your household and personal waste, one simple lifestyle tweak at a time. No giant investment of time or money required.
Sharing tips and strategies from her book, The (Almost) Zero-Waste Guide, author Melanie Mannarino will outline how every one of us can travel more sustainably, save money and the planet when cooking at home and dining out, make our homes eco-friendlier, and contribute to a sustainable community.
Melanie Mannarino is a writer and editor specializing in wellness and lifestyle content. Her work has appeared in Real Simple, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, and other media brands, and she's the author of four books, including The (Almost) Zero-Waste Guide. Her interest in sustainability was prompted by her mother, who was scouring garage sales and secondhand clothing stores before it was cool. Today, Melanie composts for her herb and vegetable garden, has a killer vintage clothing collection, and drives a 2012 hybrid vehicle — because it’s better to keep something functional in circulation than to send it to the landfill or junkyard in favor of something new.
This program is made possible with the support of The Friends of the Livingston Public Library.
