During Women's History Month, become acquainted with some amazing, little-known and unexpected First Ladies. 

Some assumed the title officially at her husband's inauguration while others unexpectedly became First Lady after a death.  These women had compelling life stories of triumph and tragedy, and yet each one assumed the position of First Lady either publicly or quietly behind the scenes. 

Discover who was La Belle American, Lemonade Lucy, Shadow of the White House, The Duchess, Yum Yum, Sahara Sarah, and Nervous Nellie.

Born and raised in the Garden State, speaker Joan Schaible taught middle school history and language arts in Boonton public schools.  She was a Senior Program Specialist and Volunteer Coordinator at the Morris County Park Commission and at Fosterfields Living Historical Farm in Morris Twp., NJ.  She enjoys giving history presentations to schools, libraries, senior centers and history groups.  Currently Jane volunteers as a docent at Craftsman Farms in Parsippany, NJ, and also at Care I in Whippany, NJ and at Market Street Mission Thrift Shop, Morristown, NJ.
