Program Description

Event Details

Grades 3-5

The library has partnered with the Livingston High School Fire Robotics Team to offer an exciting, interactive, 3 hour coding workshop! This hands-on program allows children to build on the foundations of coding and robotics through the use of FLL and Vex IQ robots, providing them with a strong pathway into robotics.

During the workshop, children will:

  • Build their own robot using kits provided by FIRE Robotics
  • Code their robots to solve challenges, developing logistical thinking skills as they experiment with coding concepts
  • Learn intermediate/advanced programming ideas such as for-loops, basic arrays, operators, and variables
  • Collaborate with Livingston High School Robotics mentors, gaining support and inspiration

This workshop encourages creativity, curiosity, and teamwork while helping young learners build confidence in their coding abilities. No matter the level of coding experience, participants will have a blast programming FLL and Vex IQ robots and watching their code come to life!

Pizza will be served.

LHS Fire Robotics Team:
The Livingston High School Fire Robotics Team is committed to making STEM education accessible, engaging, and empowering for young learners through our Outreach Programs such as the Hour of Code. Our goal is to introduce elementary students to foundational coding & robotics concepts in a way that emphasizes creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on exploration. By pairing block-based programming with real-world robotics applications, we help students see how code translates into action using our very own TEAMFIRE iteration process. Through mentorship and interactive learning, we aim to spark long-term interest in STEM while building confidence, curiosity, and teamwork skills in the next generation of innovators.
