Program Description

Event Details

The First People of New Jersey arrived thousands of years before the Colonial Era. These Stone Age migrants first arrived after the last glacial ice began to recede, and over time, became the Lenape people.

In honor of Native American Heritage Month, speaker Walter Choroszewski shares their story revealed from artifacts discovered at NJ archeological sites, as well as the written record after first contact with European colonists of the 17th and 18th centuries.

Walter is a well-known New Jersey photographer whose images were the inspiration for the iconic first state tourism campaign: NEW JERSEY & You Perfect Together!  Mr. Choroszewski has been a leading advocate of Jersey pride since 1980, when he was commissioned to photograph the state for a book project. The resulting book, New Jersey: A Scenic Discovery, launched his photographic career, as well as his link to the Garden State. He has since published 18 books of photography and numerous wall calendars about our state and region. For over 40 years, Walter has promoted New Jersey through public speaking.

This program is made possible with the support of The Friends of the Livingston Public Library.
