Floral Design encompasses botany, poetry, engineering, sculpture, color theory, and choreography.
Join floral designer Elise Bernhardt on the morning of September 21st at 11am in this lecture and demonstration, and discover easy and affordable ways of making aesthetically pleasing flower arrangements, using basic floral design principles.
In this class Elise will demonstrate basic floral design and arrangement concepts using fresh materials, compositional principles from Ikebana, and ways to work with ecologically friendly floral materials to make sustainable arrangements.
She will talk about the importance of (and science behind) working with flowers and having them in your space. She will also talk about the "duet" between containers and flowers - so you learn how to make arrangements specifically for different vases.
Elise studied choreography at Sarah Lawrence College and worked in the dance world for many years. Years later, after a career as an Executive Director of a non-profit cultural organization, Elise began studying floral design and, in 2018, opened Fleur Elise Bkln. She teaches floral design as a spiritual practice and life skill. Through her continuous study of Ikebana - Japanese Floral Design - Bernhardt brings an Eastern perspective to her design practice and her teaching.
