A Christmas Carol: How Dickens Reshaped Christmas with a Ghost Story

Christmas was a relatively minor holiday in Britain and the US.

 So how did a brief novel by Charles Dickens literally change the way we celebrate December 25th?

 In this multimedia talk, entertainment historian John Kenrick looks back on how this beloved story had such a cultural impact -- and offers video clips from some of the many stage and screen adaptations of Scrooge's discovery of the true spirit of Christmas.

John has worked in the theater at every level from amateur to Broadway, eventually serving as personal assistant to six Tony Award winning producers, including the team behind the original production of Rent. He has taught musical theater history courses at New York University’s Steinhardt School, The New School University, and Philadelphia’s University of the Arts. He is the creator of the educational website Musicals101.com, and his books include Musical Theater: A History.
