Do you browse the internet for health information, but are not sure if you can trust what you find? Do you want to know how to find vetted and reliable medical information sources online?

If so, please join Brittany Haliani, Director of Library Services at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, as she provides guidance on how to efficiently navigate the internet while looking for health and wellness resources, and steers you to find accurate and updated information during your searches.

During this presentation, you will learn tools to access an authoritative health website, learn how to see if your physician is board certified and how to look up your physician’s medical license.  You will also learn how to access complementary and alternative medicine websites and how to evaluate health information shared on social media.

Brittany Haliani started her medical library career at Mayo Clinic.  During her time at Mayo, she received her Master of Library Science degree with a focus on medicine, from Texas Women’s University.  Prior to assuming her position at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, she served as Manager of Library Services at Cottage Health in Santa Barbara California where she was involved in designing a state of the art medical library, created a clinical librarian program that participates in multidisciplinary patient rounds and community outreach on accessing reliable health resources.  Before Cottage Health, she worked as Director for both the Medical Library and Medical Education at Suburban Hospital Johns Hopkins Medicine.  She also has taught multiple classes on how to search medical literature, accessing health information and using the medical library to promote research.  Brittany participated in the Woods Hole Biomedical Informatics course in 2009, sponsored by the Medical Library Association.  She has participated in several medical library associations including acting president for the Maryland Association of Health Science Librarians 2005-2007.  Brittany is a member of the Academy of Health Information Professionals and certified as a Consumer Health Information Specialist.
