Come see Yorgos Lanthimos' POOR THINGS on the big screen in our program room!
Based on Alasdair Gray's 1992 novel of the same name, the story follows the resurrection of Bella. Through unorthodox experimentations with human life and death, scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter raises the young woman back to life. However, her newer version finds her relearning about the world and its ways. At the same time, she discovers inequalities that restrict women in a conservative society. What follows is her newfound quest to pursue liberation and equality.
POOR THINGS won four awards at this year's Oscars, including Best Actress for Emma Stone. It was also nominated for seven other awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor (Mark Ruffalo), and Best Adapted Screenplay.
