VIRTUAL The Amazing Science of the James Webb Telescope

Designed for infrared astronomy, the James Webb Telescope is the most powerful telescope to ever be launched into space. If you are interested in learning more about the science behind this amazing telescope, the Livingston Public Library invites you to join us virtually on Zoom Wednesday, August 31st at 7pm, for a conversation on “The Amazing Science of the James Webb Telescope.” 

During this conversation Modhumita Sabata, Principal Systems Engineer at the Space Science Institute, will take us on a journey exploring the science behind this project. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions about the James Webb Telescope, and will come away with a new facinstation for astronomy. 

Modhumita Sabata currently serves in the capacity of a Principal Systems Engineer at the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI), Baltimore, located on the Johns Hopkins Campus. Her primary focus is Mission, and Science Operations for the recently launched James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). She is also the lead Systems Engineer for the Science & Operations Center's (S&OC) Proposal Planning & Scheduling Subsystem (PPS) for JWST. Prior to STScI, she worked as a Systems Engineer at Lucent (subsequently Avaya, Inc.), in the Telecommunications Industry. Fresh out of Graduate School (Colorado State University) with a Master's in Computer Science (& Physics, from Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, India), she started her professional career as a Software Engineer with a Biotech startup, Cytomation Inc. that manufactured Flow Cytometers. Her hobbies include Yoga, listening to music, dance, photography, and spending time outdoors in nature.
